Tuition, Financial Awards, and the Sunshine Fund

Thank you for checking into Nueva's Financial Award program. For an initial overview, it may may be helpful to read Affording an Education at The Nueva School. This page, with materials and deadlines, will also be updated for the 2013-2014 application season in the fall. In the meantime, it provides a solid overview of the general process.
Starting on December 1, 2013, applicant families may begin to apply for financial aid for the 2014-15 school year. The process begins by completing your family's Personal Financial Statement (PFS) through the School and Student Services (SSS) of the National Association of Independent Schools at www.nais.org/financialaid. You will also need to complete supplemental financial documents required by the Nueva School and described below in the checklist.
Remember to keep a copy of all records before submitting them to Nueva and to SSS.
Admissions decisions are made independently of financial award considerations, and awards are based solely on financial need. Awards for 2013-2014 are given for grades K - 10, and amounts are determined using results from a financial analysis conducted by the School and Student Services, a service of the National Association of Independent Schools. Twenty percent of Nueva students receive awards to cover tuition and trip costs. We structure our awards by first serving those students who currently receive awards, then other enrolled students who have had a change in their financial status, followed by newly accepted students.
Although Nueva is not always able to meet the financial award requests of every family, we strongly encourage families to apply for financial aid in same the year they are applying if circumstances suggest that financial assistance might be needed to enroll. Information on the process is outlined below. If you have any questions or need guidance on unusual circumstances, please contact the Admissions Office at 650-350-4528, or by email This email address is being protected from spambots. Once a child has enrolled, the Sunshine Fund is an additional resource for families to help pay some of the cost of selected school related expenses beyond tuition and fees. Families that already qualify for and receive tuition financial awards are eligible for a Sunshine Fund award. Sunshine awards are intended to offer assistance at the same level as tuition assistance, or up to fifty percent. Limited Sunshine Funds may be available for School sponsored transportation, extended day, Menuhin programs, School mandated on-campus tutoring, and School requested psycho-educational evaluations.
