Darwin's Sketchbook - Animal Anatomy
Emma Tipping

From DaVinci to Darwin, for centuries scientists have used drawing to interpret the natural world. Come with us as we chart our own course to discovery, learning about the fundamentals of human and animal anatomy in a classroom where science and art are united. We will study skulls borrowed from the Academy of Sciences, analyze and compare skeletons of different species and discuss form versus function, all while recording our observations in our sketchbooks. This class is a fantastic introduction to skills essential to such careers as veterinary medicine, general practice, zoology, illustration, creature design, video game artist, and much more. Emphasis is on analysis of form, critical thinking and diligence, all dominant traits in successful scientists and artists alike.
Suggested grades: 3-8
